Production run: 1300 units
This is a Stern widebody, but like the other wide pins by this manufacturer, are not quite as large as others of this time period.
Designed by Harry Williams, this was one of 6 games designed by Stern that year. The previous year, and incredible 9 games were produced. However, this was basically the end of the explosion of pinball by the original company. The following years, very little made it out the door.
This is a heavy skill shot oriented game but a great deal of it requires some luck.
Could this game have been inspired by the Greek tale, 'Icarus'?...ina hot pink cabinet.
The bingo type board is a common element in most older Stern games. It is used somewhat differently in each game. With this one an innovation has been added. Pressing both flipper buttons at the same time changes the arrow indicator. This area of tha game adds elevation and the computer generated voice increases in pitch the higher you get.
The game speaks 20 words and mixes them into several phrases in varying pitches. The most dramatic example is if you hit the high score. The game goes nuts. Search youtube for a vid demo of this.
The pop bumpers in this game are almost completely plastic. From the ring to the supports and the underside holder and base, I am crossing my fingers that it doesn't break. It is quiet compared to the more common metal versions. (Nice wax smudge of the playfield I missed)
